Column cover is used in the automotive parts to protect the steering device. It is very important to make the part strong and match well with the other part. For the column cover part, it has right part and left part according to different requirement for the cars. Usually we make the column cover mould with 1+1 cavity.

The plastic raw material for the column cover part is HDPE. Every part of the car is very important for a car’s quality. There must be no flashes, no burrs and with good appearance to increase the car quality, especially for the OEM parts.

According to the customer quantity requirement, we use certain steel material for the column cover mould core and cavity, such as P20, 718H, DIN1.2738, H13 and so on. We use world famous brand hot runner system for the column cover mould. For the column cover mould structure, it has undercut design, we need to use the hydraulic cylinder system and ejection block during demolding. It is very important to make sure there would not have any scratch during demolding and the column cover part with good parting line.

In order to get a longer mould life and avoid flashes after some time running, we will do a nitriding treatment after mould tooling finished. With this treatment, we could get more than 500 thousand shots production for this column covers mould.

For the automotive part moulds, the part design and mould design discussion before mould tooling is very important. Most of the automotive moulds are with big size, include column cover mould.
